Macintosh Computers Über Alles! (well, maybe…)

Lust — tim @ 2:00 am

Wired is running an interesting article that explores why we’re so loyal to Apple computers.

Yup, we are a loyal bunch. And with good reason. In my opinion, The classic MacOS is the finest piece of software ever to grace a processor. But we’re not idiots. And we won’t gobble down just any old crap that Steve Jobs declares is “Insanely Great!” The fact is, MacOS X falls short of the bar set by Apple’s earlier work. I’m sure the Switchers love it, but they’re coming from Windows, they wouldn’t know a good interface if it bit them on the ass. The poor dears…

It’s not just me kvetching! Some other smart folks are grumpy, too!

More dissent as I find it. I’ll echo Zeldman and just say I hope Apple hears the wailing of it’s longtime users. Please, please, please?

[Update 12.24.2002 2am] More action on the OS X Finder front. Check this post on daringfireball.net.

Trace Fury — yum!

Blather — tim @ 9:47 pm

I’ve been trying to see Trace Fury for a couple of months now. Seems every time they do a show, I have something else scheduled. But I finally caught them last night at the Khyber and I’m glad I did. Their energy live leaves the CD in the dust. (And the CD is nothing to sneeze at.) You can feel their power right away—had me grinning before they hit their second change. Powerful, tasty, deep. Kind of what Jeff Buckley would sound like on piano instead of guitar… or PJ Harvey with two pairs of hands.

Midnight Burn Comp Scores Posted (finally)

Blather — tim @ 11:54 pm

Results from the Philly Rock Gym’s Midnight Burn have finally been posted and I have a correction to make. Previously, I had reported placing 19th in the Men’s Advanced class. I actually placed 16th. Go me.

How about a celebratory photo of The NutBuster(R)TM as it prepares to dash my hopes? (…and my boys. Pesky gravitational force.)

There is a tiny yakitori in a basement on St. Mark’s Place in NYC. I’ve eaten there twice. Both times I felt like I wasn’t in America any more. It’s as if the US stops as soon as you cross the threshold.

They open at 6. Get there by 6:10 or you’ll be waiting in the cold for a table. It’s just that damn tasty.
